PaddlePaddle as Merchant of Record – booked correctly

Export Paddle to DATEVMerchant of Record cleanly as reverse charge – not as ordinary revenue

Paddle is Merchant of Record – legally, Paddle sells to your customers, collects VAT worldwide and pays you net. That's exactly what confuses German accounting. finHero books your Paddle revenue correctly as reverse-charge revenue against Paddle as a debtor – for DATEV, BMD, bexio or Abacus.

Merchant of Record is almost always booked wrong

Because Paddle is the seller to the end customer, your Paddle payouts are not ordinary revenue with VAT. Anyone booking the payouts simply as revenue records VAT they never owed – and runs into a problem by the audit at the latest.

The correct approach is a reverse-charge treatment towards Paddle. But Paddle provides no finished booking batch for this, and very few tools understand the MoR model. The result: uncertainty for you and your tax advisor.

Wrong VAT posting

Booking payouts as ordinary revenue creates VAT that isn't actually due.

MoR logic unknown

Reverse charge against the Merchant of Record needs explaining – and is often skipped.

Subscriptions & accruals

Annual subscriptions must be accrued by period – barely feasible by hand.

Every Paddle transaction – cleanly booked

  • Reverse charge against the MoR

Your income (revenue − tax − fee) is booked as reverse-charge revenue against Paddle as a debtor – correctly prepared for VAT purposes.

  • Real fees & receipts

Paddle fees are taken over as real amounts; the invoice PDFs are supplied and assigned in the receipt list.

  • Deferred revenue accrual

For subscriptions, finHero automatically creates the deferred revenue accrual (pRAP) from the billing periods.

💡

Paddle offers no public payout API. Payouts are mapped via the stored transit accounts as soon as the data is available.
