Export Lemon Squeezy to DATEVMerchant of Record correctly as reverse charge – incl. fee estimation
Lemon Squeezy is the popular MoR platform for indie hackers and SaaS – and like Paddle, Lemon Squeezy is Merchant of Record. finHero books your orders correctly as reverse-charge revenue against Lemon Squeezy as a debtor, including receipts and deferred revenue accruals, for DATEV, BMD, bexio or Abacus.
The problem
MoR + missing fee data = accounting in the dark
As with Paddle, you are not the seller for VAT purposes – Lemon Squeezy is. Booking payouts as ordinary revenue is wrong. What's needed is a reverse-charge posting against the Merchant of Record.
To make it harder: the Lemon Squeezy API doesn't cleanly output the platform fees. Ignoring them distorts your margin. finHero calculates the fees transparently with a default value and lets you adjust the percentage to your terms.
MoR booked wrong
Booking orders as ordinary revenue ignores the Merchant of Record model.
Fees not in the API
Without fee data, a key building block for margin and posting is missing.
Accruing subscriptions
Annual subscriptions must be accrued by period – tedious manually.
| Amount € | Account | Contra account | Booking text |
|---|---|---|---|
| 29,00 | 21100 | 4336 | LS inv. no. LS-88 (MoR) |
| 1,95 | 6855 | 1814 | Lemon Squeezy fee (calculated) |
| 348,00 | 20000 | 2900 | pRAP annual subscription |
